Britney Spears announces new album on her birthday
Britney Spears will release her seventh album in March of 2011, reports Billboard. The singer has announced a new album on her 29th birthday (Dec. 2)
Fans were on the lookout for a big announcement from the singer Thursday (Dec. 2) afternoon, after Spears’ manager, Adam Leber, said via Twitter and Facebook that “the announcement you’ve all been waiting for is coming today.”
Spears did not disappoint, tweeting approximately an hour later: “My fans mean the world to me & waking up to all of your wishes really made me smile, so here’s something that I hope will make you smile… I’m almost done with my new album and it will be coming out this March. I AM IN L-O-V-E WITH IT!”
The album reunites Spears with two of pop music’s biggest producers and songwriters, Max Martin and Dr. Luke. Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald said in late October that though he had not started work on the album at the time, he “wants [the sound] to get harder in some ways, and maybe a little more deep into electronic — grimier.”
Spears’ March 2011 release will be her first since 2008’s “Circus,” which has sold 1.7 million in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, marking her fifth chart-topping set. “Circus” also spawned five Billboard Hot 100 hit singles, including three top 20 hits: “Womanizer” (No. 1), the title track (No. 3) and “If U Seek Amy” (No. 19). The albums tracks have sold 8 million downloads in the U.S.
