Unknown attempted to burn new synagogue in Mainz Germany
In Mainz unknown attempted to set fire a new synagogue and Jewish community center. The incident occurred on the night of Oct. 31. Attackers threw a bottle into a building with a Molotov cocktail, but it hit the tree trunk and fell to the ground and caught fire, according to FOCUS.
Synagogue building was not damaged. The prosecutor’s office launched an investigation into the incident of Mainz. Power based on the fact that there has been attempted arson. Exit on the trail of criminals have not yet succeeded.
Minister of Internal Affairs of Rhineland-Palatinate, Karl Peter Bruch (Karl Peter Bruch) called the incident “an attack on German democracy.” Israel’s ambassador to Germany Yoram Ben-Zeev (Yoram Ben-Zeev) condemned the attempted arson, but expressed the belief that German law enforcement authorities will do everything possible to protect Jewish institutions in Germany.
A new Jewish community center in Mainz, worth 10 million euro was launched in September this year at the former site of the city’s main synagogue of Mainz, burnt by the Nazis in the “Crystal Night” from 9 to 10 November 1938. At the opening ceremony of the new synagogue was attended by the Federal President of Germany Christian Wulff.
