Gang of elephant smugglers Arrested In India

Police in India arrested five men on suspicion of smuggling elephants, said on Nov. 1 MSNBC. Police seized documents indicate that over the past five years, the gang illegally transported from north-eastern state of Assam in other parts of India not less than 92 elephants.
During the operation, which took place on Sunday, October 31, the suspects were seized three wild elephants. As noted by MSNBC, trade elephants in India is prohibited, and even permit the transportation of domestic elephants from one state to another is associated with numerous bureaucratic difficulties.

Nevertheless, the smuggling of elephants in the country prospers.Possession of an elephant is an indicator of status and high status in society, and many wealthy residents of India tries to get the elephant. On the roads of India are held regularly inspected in connection with what police suspect that the detained smugglers were in cahoots with the supervisory authorities.
