Zidane and Materazzi made a peace
Zinedine Zidane and Italian defender Marco Materazzi, who became a hero of the main scandal of the World Cup in 2006, reconciled. It happened on Wednesday, November 3, at a hotel in Milan, where the players met by chance. Zidane and Materazzi talked to each other, and at the end of the conversation embraced Spanish newspaper Marca.
Currently, Zidane is an adviser to the president of Real Madrid Florentino Perez. November 3 Real Madrid holds a Champions League match with AC Milan, and Zidane arrived in Italy with the team.
Materazzi came to the hotel to meet with the head coach of Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho. The Italian played two years under the guidance of Mourinho, when he led Milan to Inter. Materazzi stands for Inter so far.
As noted by Marca, when Zidane and Materazzi saw each other, they shook hands, and at first the tone of their conversation was “cool.” But then the players started talking and before goodbye, hugged each other.
At the end of the 2006 World Cup qualifier between Italy and France, Zidane hit Materazzi in the chest and was removed from the field. As a result, the Italians won the final in a penalty shootout.
Zidane later explained his action by the fact that the Italian insulted his mother. Materazzi for a long time not saying what he said to Zidane, but eventually admitted that he insulted the Frenchman’s sister, and apologized.
