Palestinian Parliament Secretary General arrested in Israel
Israeli soldiers arrested Secretary General of the Palestinian parliament, Mahmoud Ramahi, according to Al Jazeera.
The detention came after storming the house of parliament in Ramallah in the West Bank. Ramahi could inform about the Iraeli attack to his colleague – deputy Mona Mansour by e phone. According to her, the details of the incident and place were taken Mahmoud, not known, since the link was broken.
Representatives of the Israeli army said that they are examining the reports of the incident.
The detention of Mahmoud Ramahi happened on the eve of planned peace talks in Damascus between Hamas and Fatah – the two organizations that control the Palestinian territories. The split between them runs from June 2007 when Hamas seized power in Gaza, thereby limiting the influence of Fatah.
Since then, the Palestinians have made several attempts at reconciliation, but they failed.
