Obama assured Israel qualitative military advantage
U.S. President Barack Obama said that U.S. administration will go beyond the standard of cooperation with Israel’s defense “to support the qualitative military superiority” of the Jewish state.
As reported by AFP , the promise Obama made at a meeting with the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) – an organization that lobbies for the interests of Israel.
The American president said that U.S. relations with Israel remain inviolable, despite occasional disagreements.
Speaking to the lobbyists, Obama repeated calls for an independent Palestinian state on 1967 borders. May 19, he put forward such a proposal in his keynote speech on the Middle East.
In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the Jewish state will not return to 1967 borders because those borders are impossible to protect. In addition, such a decision, according to Netanyahu, means isolation of Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
At a meeting with lobbyists Obama noted that his position was initially misinterpreted. According to the U.S. president, he also offers Israel and the Palestinians to make an exchange of territory by mutual agreement. “My proposal was not anything particularly new,” – concluded the President of the United States.
Obama stressed that any delay in resolving the conflict with the Palestinians, undermining the security of Israel. “We can not afford to wait another 10 years or 20, or 30 to reach the world” – said the American president.
