88-year old Californian shot his wife before 70 th anniversary
Police arrested a 88-year old California resident on suspicion of murder.
The incident occurred on Sunday, November 21, in a nursing home in the south of California. Police found the man sitting beside the body of his 86-year old wife who was shot in the head. The man was seized a pistol. According to police, resisted arrest a suspect did not have.
The couple’s daughter Kathy Palmateer told the Los Angeles Times the shooting a month before their 70th anniversary was “a mercy killing” by a husband who had long fed and bathed his wife.
The police said they do not yet have data on the motives behind the crime. However, according to Cathy Palmateer, 88-year-old Roy Laird could have killed his wife out of compassion: the last time she was suffering from severe senile mental disorders.
As noted by her daughter, about three months ago, Clara Laird has ceased to recognize relatives. In addition, earlier the woman has completely lost independence. All this time the court her by her husband, until the last moment not want to give his wife in a nursing home.
Currently, Roy Laird is in custody. Charges will be brought against him this week.
